Double the Birthday Fun

My two nieces share a birthday. Kailani turned 8 and Abigail 3. They were born on the same day, just different years. I think it is pretty cool. With a five year age difference, there will be some fun times ahead making both their day special, but for now, it is working out just fine. Abigail had to have the ice cream cake, so I let Kailani pick what kind of cupcakes she wanted for her birthday. She chose Oreo. We had a small family gathering Sunday afternoon (their birthday was the next day).
Stoney asked who was turning 38 and Abigail excited raised her hand, "ME!" Abigail's side of the cake with Dora characters and Kailani's side with Scooby Doo (both those are both Abigail's favorites right now. Kailani was a good sport).

This cracked me up. Abigail got a necklace from one of her grandmas. I asked her to see her pretty necklace and she stuck her neck out for me to see. Kids crack me up!

Happy Birthday to you two princesses. We LOVE you.

Weston's Birthday

Happy Birthday Weston! It was acutally on conference sunday. Lori helped planned meal fit for a king with tri-tip steak, baked potatoes, lots of yummy salads, pipping hot homemade bread, and I made a tasty german chocolate cake for him. I did this instead of cupcakes. We did the birthday spanking tunnel, which he informed us he was going to plow everyone over. True to his word with the little ones. I think he got enough spankings though. It was a nice afternoon and perfect little celebration. Happy Birthday Weston.

April General Conference

During General Conference, Howie enjoyed brushing my hair. I loved it too. I love my hair to be played with, as long as it isn't getting pulled! Howie seriously did it for most of conference.

Then livy joined in the fun.

Oh Glory!

In between conference sessions on saturday, we went up to the Owyhee dam. Some fun facts about the Owyhee Dam: It is 52 miles long and is the largest dam in Oregon. I have grown up by this dam and frequented it many a times for water sports. During the summer, after we would get our chores done, we would run up there with the boat and go water skiing, kneeborarding, tubing, etc. Many great memories as a kid are associated with this reservoir. We took a drive up to it because they are letting out lots of water through the glory hole and it is producing lots of flooding. There was actually a man from the irrigation district there and he told us it has been 5 years since they let water out the glory hole. They have too much coming into the dam and they are having to let it out. This is a pretty big deal around here.

You can see the mist from the spillway. It was pretty cool in person.

I found these older photos on wikipedia. It is fun to see how it has changed a bit.

APRIL FOOLS

Did you play any tricks? Tommy came home from work and tried to tell me that he was let go from work. I laughed and said, "no way, you love your job too much and they like you too!"

We had some friends over, the Cameron's. I told them we were having Easter Dinner (hence the plates). We had cupcakes for dinner and then grilled cheese sandwiches for dessert. Everything backwards. Howie told me he wanted something healthy for dinner, not cupcakes. I made him eat it anyway. I asked him to guess what kind of cupcake they were. He took a long time to answer, but said, "carrot cake?" They were actually meatloaf with mashed potatoes. He kept asking for the grilled cheese. When he ate it, he said through his crumb filled mouth, "frosting?!" Yep, it was actually pound cake with orange cream cheese frosting. What looked like water was actually a clear citrus punch. It was pretty funny. I haven't ever played any jokes on my kids for April Fools day, thinking they were too young. I thought this would be the perfect year to start. I think they weren't too happy with me.
