Celebrating Dr. Seuss

We celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday yesterday with activities, coloring, reading his books, watching his movies and food inspired by him.
Howie cutting and gluing like rhyming words
Livy showing off Horton Hears a Who paper elephants. I especially love the little speck on the clover. I really like this book and movie. We ended up watching the original of this movie (found on our Grinch dvd) but also love the Jim Carey version.

Ate Green Eggs and Ham
(Howie thought this was pretty cool sine had read the book at school that day. Livy just thought it was a cool different meal.)
Made Oobleck. I remember making this in 6th grade science class. It was an object lesson about liquids and solids. This goo was both. Crazy I remember that kind of stuff. The internet listed this activity to do in correlation to the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck. I haven't read this book yet, but really want to. Where have I been?
Ate some candy Green Eggs and Ham
And topped off our evening with a Thing 1 or a Thing 2 cupcake. These were so much fun! One word of advice, only put the cotton candy on when you are ready to eat them or serve them. I took some to my mom's house and the cotton candy literally melted, dissolved, disappeared and you could only see the frosting and cupcake, no cotton candy.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Thank you for your contribution to this world. We enjoy your books, movies, and rhymes. Tommy is really impressed with this quote:

You're never to old
too wacky, too wild,
to pick up a book
and read to a child.
-Dr. Seuss

Eli's Birthday March 1st

Happy Birthday Eli. Sheree's little boy turned 1 and we celebrated with birthday cake. Sheree made a cute cake with fruit that he could eat and he loved it. He was smiling from ear to ear when he got to hear his daddy's voice on the phone. We love you Eli. Happy Birthday!
Cousins to help him celebrate his first birthday!

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! We made some classic sugar cookies for friends and family and had plenty for us to eat also! Note to self: Next year, don't double the recipe!!
I like to give a little treat to the kids on holidays. Chocolates, candy, valentine socks, a book for howie, and the family got Toy Story 3. That was a hit! (had been saving that one for a while, looking for the right time to unveil it)
A little bit of sweetness. Who doesn't love chocolate covered strawberries?
And this lovely German Chocolate Drizzle Cake. Go here for the recipe and much much better photos and chocolate drizzling. My chocolate wasn't working well with me, but it still tasted amazing! Drove around this night and shared dessert with family.

And thank you to the hubby for the perfect gift! He pre-ordered me the Our Best Bites cookbook! I have been a huge fan of their blog and recipes. Smart man, my hubby, getting me a cookbook, so I cook for him. Yes, smart man.
Happy Valentine's Day!
