The first Hike of the summer (post by Tommy)

I have a four year old boy in Southern Utah. There is an unwritten law that if you have a young boy in Southern Utah it is imperative that you love hiking. I think I would love it regardless but the happiness it brings to my children makes it that much better. Not only does Howie love it. Livie even loves it buckled into that funny backpack. I wonder if she will be smiling as much when she has to carry her own weight rather than making me Just kidding I love the extra weight it makes the hike that much more of a work out.
The whole time I was trying to keep her hat on so she would not get a sunburn but she just kept on taking it off. Luckily she didn't get burned to bad, thanks to Howie who kept on letting me know that her hat was off and then I would kneel down on the ground and Howie would put her hat back on. Thanks Buddy you were a huge help this day.
Howie is all boy the whole time we were hiking he wanted to catch grass hoppers, and he is really quite good at it. He would see one and completely slow down(which is no small feat for this boy) and sneak up on them. I was impressed how good he is at catching them.

What a good Daddy you are! We went to the park the other day too. Isn't it great? And the hiking looked fun, just wait until it gets hotter!
